What You Need to Know
  • Construction crews are working on the Stedman Street Bridge.
  • Final paving and striping remains on the section between Stedman Street Bridge and Deermount Street. Sidewalk work is nearly complete in this section.
  • Pedestrian DETOURS will accommodate pedestrian traffic through construction zones.
  • Drivers should expect intermittent SINGLE-LANE TRAFFIC as well as flagging operations, please plan your trip accordingly.
Traffic Impacts

Drivers please pay attention to traffic control personnel and make sure to read the electronic message boards for up-to-date information. Drivers should be aware that bridge repairs will begin on Stedman Street in July 2018. Also, in fall 2018, construction will begin on Front Street and Mill Street and will include sidewalks being reconstructed with roadway resurfacing to follow.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Secon Inc., is working to reconstruct Front Street, Mill Street and Stedman Streets in Downtown Ketchikan. Beginning at the intersection with Grant Street (Water Street Tunnel) to west of Stedman and Deermount Street's intersection. Work will include the demolition and reconstruction of pedestrian facilities and sidewalks, bridge deck repairs, bridge substructure repairs, removal of buried dock pilings and caps from the roadbed, storm drain improvements, pavement rehabilitation, as well as signing and striping.
