The intersection of Stedman Street and Dock Street is CLOSED to traffic while construction crews install barriers and pedestrian access from the Stedman Street Bridge to Dock Street.

Construction crews are removing sidewalks and preparing for new installations on the northbound side of Stedman Street from the Stedman Street Bridge to Dock Street. Drivers should be aware that Dock Street will be CLOSED at Stedman Street and there will be no parking on Stedman Street from the Stedman Street Bridge through the end of the work zone on Dock Street.

What You Need to Know
  • Crews are installing barriers to replace pipes on the southbound side of Mill Street, from the corner at Front Street to the Federal Building bus stop. Drivers should be aware that there will be no parking on Mill Street from the Stedman Street Bridge to Bawden Street.
  • Drivers should be aware of changes to traffic patterns, pedestrian traffic, parking and access in this area. Please follow all signs for DETOURS and expect flagging operations.
  • Business access will be maintained throughout the construction zone.




Traffic Impacts

Drivers please pay attention to traffic control personnel and make sure to read the electronic message boards for up-to-date information. In fall 2018, construction will begin on Front Street and Mill Street and will include sidewalks being reconstructed with roadway resurfacing to follow.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Secon Inc., is working to reconstruct Front Street, Mill Street and Stedman Streets in Downtown Ketchikan. Beginning at the intersection with Grant Street (Water Street Tunnel) to west of Stedman and Deermount Street's intersection. Work will include the demolition and reconstruction of pedestrian facilities and sidewalks, bridge deck repairs, bridge substructure repairs, removal of buried dock pilings and caps from the roadbed, storm drain improvements, pavement rehabilitation, as well as signing and striping.
